About
The Bavinck Institute at Calvin Theological Seminary is named after Herman Bavinck (1854–1921), the great Dutch Reformed theologian and author of the four-volume Gereformeerde Dogmatiek (Reformed Dogmatics).
Mission
The Institute exists to promote scholarship related to Bavinck himself, Bavinck’s neo-Calvinist contemporaries (e.g., Abraham Kuyper, Willem Geesink), and Bavinck’s proteges, such as his nephew, Johan Herman Bavinck (1895–1964), missionary to Indonesia and pioneer Reformed missiologist.
Initiatives
In accordance with its mission, the Bavinck Institute facilitates research and communication among scholars, teachers, pastors, and students through the following initiatives:
- The Bavinck Institute web site—an international headquarters for news, scholarship, conferences, publications, and discussions
- The Bavinck Society, a scholarly society for theologians, pastors, and students
- The Bavinck Review, a scholarly e-journal
- and a private discussion forum for Bavinck Society members
